          How did polygraph evolve?

There has always been a problem of detecting lies.  Defense attorneys, prosecutors, and police investigators are all familiar with outward physical signs that a suspect is not telling the truth.  They are both verbal and non-verbal in nature.

Eventually someone thought it might be possible to make a scientific determination of deception or truthfulness by obtaining recordings of non-observable physiological phenomena such as changes in blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and GSR activity (sweat gland activation).  Specifically, the polygraph is looking for the emotion of fear regarding a particular question.  The fear of being caught in a lie causes stress inside the body.  The polygraph instrument records the body's involuntary responses to an examiner's questions in order to determine deceptive behavior.

Polygraph Testing can help your client

in several ways.

        1.  Pre-trial Negotiations - If you can show that your client passed a polygraph test given by an examiner with exemplary credentials, the pro-secutor might be willing to reduce the charge against your client.

        2.  Post-trial Sentencing - Passing a poly-graph test can mean the difference between your client being sentenced to five years instead of ten.  Is five years of your client's life worth the time and expense of a polygraph test?

Polygraph Testing for businesses is used widely today.  However, there is a 16-point checklist which the employer must follow in order to adhere to federal law. Consult with your attorney about this checklist.

Polygraph Testing is also done to verify a statement.
